Josip Popovac new president of the Council for Electronic Media

The Croatian Parliament has made a decision to appoint Josip Popovac as the president of the Council for Electronic Media (VEM) and director of the Agency for Electronic Media (AEM) effective September 1, 2018, it was announced on Wednesday on the website of the Agency for Electronic Media.

As stated in the announcement, the Croatian Parliament made a decision on June 29 regarding the dismissals and appointments of members of the Council for Electronic Media. A decision was made to dismiss the president of VEM and director of the Agency for Electronic Media Damir Hajduk effective August 31, 2018, at his personal request, as well as the dismissal of Council members Suzana Kunac, Gordana Simonović, and member Robert Tomljenović.

By this decision of the Parliament, and after amendments and proposals submitted by the Government on June 27, Damir Bučević and Josip Popovac were appointed as new members of the Council, while Robert Tomljenović, the deputy president of the Council, was granted a new mandate.

Josip Popovac, who will become the president of the Council for Electronic Media in September, comes from Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT), where he served as acting, or temporary, director general of HRT and president of the Management Board from 2009 to 2012, and is currently the head of the Selection and Procurement of Programming Content Unit at HRT.

Damir Bučević comes from T-HT where he was engaged in production and content. Robert Tomljenović has been a member of the Council for Electronic Media since September 2013, and in July 2017 he was elected as the deputy president of the Council and director of the Agency for Electronic Media.
