The Slovenian police on Tuesday again denied the suspicions of non-governmental organizations, including Amnesty International, that they are conducting forced deportations of migrants who expressed a desire to seek asylum upon entering the country, an investigation of which is being led by the Ombudsman Vlasta Nusdorfer, asserting that illegal migrants “abuse” the institute of international protection.

As stated by the Slovenian police directorate, the treatment of migrants and potential asylum seekers is conducted in accordance with the law and international law, and these procedures in Slovenia are also monitored by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The significant difference in the number of migrants who entered Slovenia this year and those who were granted asylum is explained by the disobedience of migrants who, after expressing a desire for asylum, are accommodated in a migrant reception center but leave the premises voluntarily before formally submitting their application.
The true goal of such migrants is other Western countries, so migrants, according to the Slovenian police, only formally express a desire for asylum to avoid being immediately returned across the border, and when they are settled in an asylum home, they do not wait to formally submit their application but leave voluntarily, thereby renouncing their right to asylum and international protection under Slovenian law.
