HDZ and Živi zid’s popularity increased, SDP and Most’s decreased

If parliamentary elections were held in early July, HDZ would win with 25 percent of the votes, compared to 24.8 percent in June, according to the regular monthly survey by CRO Demoskop.

SDP in second place records a choice of 18.7 percent, compared to 19.1 percent in June, Živi zid is in third place with a choice of 13.4 percent, compared to 13.1 percent in June, followed by Most with a choice of 7.3 percent, down from 7.8 percent a month ago.

In comparison of year-on-year results – July 2018 and July 2017 – the biggest winner is Živi zid with 7.3 percentage points, and Most with 0.9 percentage points, while on the other hand, the two leading parties recorded a year-on-year decline in electoral support – HDZ down 9.3 percentage points, and SDP down 5.1.

Most popular politician – Nobody

The top of the list of positive perceptions of Croatian politicians this month is held by “Nobody” (no politician) with a choice of 19.2 percent, down from last month’s 24.9 percent. In second place is President Grabar Kitarović with a choice of 17.2 percent, up from 15.1 percent in June. Prime Minister Plenković remains in third place with 9.1 percent of the votes, down from 10.2 percent a month ago. Following him is Ivan Sinčić in fourth place with 5.8 percent of the votes, compared to 5.4 percent in June, and just behind him is Anka Mrak Taritaš, leader of the Glas party, with 5.7 percent of the votes. Interestingly, among the ten most positively perceived Croatian politicians, there is no president of the largest opposition party, Davor Bernardić, who is in eleventh place with 1.1 percent of the votes, down from ninth place with 2.2 percent a month ago.

At the top of the list of negative perceptions of Croatian politicians is Prime Minister Plenković with a choice of 28.7 percent, compared to 27 percent in June. Davor Bernardić returns to second place with a choice of 14.4 percent, up from 10.0 percent in June. In third place are “all politicians” as a separate category of response with a choice of 12.3 percent, down from 12.4 percent a month ago. Fourth place is held by Zlatko Hasanbegović with 7.7 percent of the votes, up from 6.2 percent in June, followed by Kolinda Grabar Kitarović with a choice of 5.7 percent, up from 4.9 percent in June.

Croatia is going in the wrong direction

The direction of the country, as a kind of indicator of social optimism, is supported by 17 percent of citizens (compared to 15.9 percent in June). In this month’s survey, 70.4 percent of respondents believe that Croatia is going in the wrong direction, down from 75.3 percent in June. 12.6 percent of citizens do not know what direction the country is heading.

The level of support for the policy of the Government of the Republic of Croatia in the twentieth month of its mandate is 30.5 percent, compared to 30 percent from the previous measurement in June. When it comes to the lack of support for government policy in this month’s survey, it stands at 54.3 percent, down from 57.9 percent in June. The perception of the work of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, besides through the criterion of support for government policy, is also measured through a school grade which in this month’s survey is 2.17, compared to 2.15 a month ago.

President gets a three, Parliament barely a two

The President of the Republic received a stable three, or 3.03, compared to 3.00 measured at the beginning of June. The highest representative body in the country, the Croatian Parliament, records a score of 1.91 in this month’s measurement, compared to 1.87 in June.

The most important topic/event in the last month is the performance of our football players at the World Cup in Russia for 39.1 percent of Croatian citizens. Events surrounding Agrokor are the most important topic for 17.9 percent of our citizens. Poor demographic indicators, emigration, and the problem of labor shortages are the most important topic for 10.7 percent of Croatian citizens, followed closely by discussions about announced changes in the pension system, at 10.1 percent.
