Camels in Zaprešić Well-Fed and Appropriately Distant from Buildings – Veterinary Inspection

The Berlin Circus, which allows camels to graze on grass in Zaprešić in a field next to residential buildings and houses, has received approval from the City of Zaprešić for the lease of public land, we learn, as well as consent from the Directorate for Veterinary Medicine and Food Safety, which oversees and checks the conditions in which animals are kept as part of the Ministry of Agriculture. Zoran Modrić, senior veterinary inspector, during an inspection in early July, determined that all animals are located in a covered and fenced area at an appropriate distance from residential buildings and roads, and in separately fenced areas that are spacious enough considering the type and number of animals.

The fenced areas do not allow for escape, the report states, the floors are covered with bedding, and manure is collected in special containers. Seven Bactrian camels, 11 horses, six ponies, and four donkeys have enough food and water available, show no signs of illness, and are well-fed, Modrić assesses.

‘Animals are provided care in accordance with ecological and biological needs in compliance with the Animal Protection Act,’ the report emphasizes, and the veterinary inspector concluded through subjective assessment that the animals performing in the show will not be abused at any moment nor treated in a way that would cause them pain, suffering, and fear.

Passersby and onlookers could also confirm that the camels in Zelengaj, although fenced only by rope, are exceptionally calm and accustomed to human presence to the extent that they generally do not pay attention to people.
