From 2003 to 2017, the number of entrepreneurs in the tourism and hospitality sector has nearly quadrupled, reported Fina.

At the beginning of the observed period, in 2003, this number was significantly lower, with 2,771 entrepreneurs. By 2007, their number had increased by 50%, reaching 4,153 entrepreneurs, and by 2012, the growth was somewhat lower at 43%. The largest growth was recorded in the last five-year period, with nearly 75%, bringing the total number of entrepreneurs to 10,339.
The number of employees increased from 35,777 in 2003 to 68,526 employees in 2017. The highest total revenue in the observed sector was achieved in 2017, amounting to 26.0 billion kuna, which is 170.3% more compared to 2003.
Valamar Achieved the Highest Revenue
When viewed by counties, the highest total revenue in 2017 was generated by 1,055 entrepreneurs in Istria County, amounting to 6.3 billion kuna.

Valamar Riviera d.d. achieved the highest total revenues in the observed sector in 2017, amounting to 1.7 billion kuna.
The highest profit of the period was recorded in 2017, amounting to 2.6 billion kuna, which is 163.4% more than in 2003. The largest loss of the period occurred in 2012, amounting to 1.7 billion kuna (59.2% more compared to 2017). Entrepreneurs in the accommodation and food preparation and serving sector operated negatively in 2007 and 2012, with the largest net loss occurring in 2012, amounting to 723.1 million kuna. Grand Hotel Lav d.o.o. recorded the largest loss in 2012, amounting to 176.2 million kuna, while the largest loser in 2017 was Dvadeset Osam d.o.o., with 126.3 million kuna.

Revenue per Employee in 2017 was 379.6 Thousand Kuna
According to the productivity indicator measured by average revenue per employee, which was just under 269 thousand kuna in 2003, the year 2017 was more successful as this indicator increased by 41%, amounting to 379.6 thousand kuna in revenue per employee. The profit per employee in 2003 was 27.2 thousand kuna, and in 2017 it rose to 37.3 thousand kuna (38%). The average monthly net salary of employees in the tourism and hospitality sector in 2017 was 4,653 kuna, which was 1,562 kuna or 50.5% higher compared to the salary calculated in 2003 (3,091 kuna).
