The City of Vrbovsko will renovate abandoned houses over the next 10 years with 50,000 to 100,000 kuna per house and make them available for young families living there, as well as families who would move to Vrbovsko, writes Novi list.
In the budget for 2019, we will allocate half a million kuna for the renovation of existing houses that are not in use. We would offer these houses to young families who are willing to come and work in the area of the City of Vrbovsko, and priority will be given in the first year to people who already live and work here but do not have their housing situation resolved satisfactorily. Of course, our goal is to expand the offer to people from other areas whom we want to attract to Vrbovsko and other settlements in our region – says the mayor of Vrbovsko, Dražen Mufić, one of the members of the commission for the drafting of the Law on Mountainous Areas, which will come into effect on January 1 of next year.

We are aware that we cannot immediately attract many young people this way, but we would be satisfied if we, for example, attracted ten families. Because, with such incentive measures, we intend to continue further, and if we had an average of ten families each year, then in ten years we would attract about a hundred families, which would mean an increase of 400 to 500 new residents, which is not negligible at all – says Mufić.

Our initial plan is to financially assist those who want to live in these houses with 50,000 to 100,000 kuna intended for the renovation of these properties. This will be non-repayable funds if those who opt to enter this program stay in Vrbovsko, and if they do not stay, then according to the contract we will sign, they will have to return the invested money because we want to protect ourselves from abuse. In the first year of this project, we will allocate 500,000 kuna for implementation, and if the project goes in the expected direction, we are ready to increase that amount – announced Mayor Mufić.
