With a visit to RiHub, Drenova, and MMSU, as well as the Benčić complex, the second part of the EU panel monitoring of the Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture project was successfully completed on Friday.
The EU panel members conducted field monitoring for both host cities of the European Capital of Culture 2020 project, Irish Galway and Croatian Rijeka.
The EU monitoring panel visited Rijeka, consisting of Ulrich Fuchs, Cristina Farinha, Jiri Suchanek, Sylvia Amann, Aiva Rozenberga, Pauli Sivonen, Angieska Wlazel, Suzana Zilić Fiser, Beatriz Garcia, and alongside them, Sylvain Pasqua representing the European Commission.
In the first part of the monitoring held at the RIJEKA 2020 company premises, panel members attended presentations from Galway and Rijeka, showcasing the progress of the project, including infrastructure development, political support, and the involvement of all stakeholders, after which the organizers successfully answered the panel members’ questions.
On the second day of their stay in Rijeka, an official reception was organized for the distinguished guests at the City of Rijeka, where the panelists were welcomed by Mayor Vojko Obersnel, City Council President Andrej Poropat, President of the PGŽ Assembly Erik Fabijanić, State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Krešimir Partl, and the heads of city and county offices. After confirming that the Rijeka project as the European Capital of Culture enjoys broad political support, the guests visited MMSU where program partners and program leaders presented themselves, and they also toured the works at the Benčić complex.
