Meat Industry Ravlić Scholarships Students and Offers Them Permanent Employment

Due to the difficulties in finding qualified butchers in the labor market, the Osijek Meat Industry ‘Ravlić’ has launched a scholarship project for students of the Osijek Craft School for this profession, offering them, along with practical training and a three-year scholarship totaling 30,000 kuna, the possibility of permanent employment in the company upon graduation.

The Executive Director of the company, Ivana Ravlić-Devald, stated at a press conference on Tuesday that due to population emigration and other negative trends in the labor market, there has recently been a problem in finding qualified butchers, prompting the company to initiate a scholarship project for students training to become butchers.

Students who accept the scholarship offer will first complete the practical part of their education in the company’s production facilities based on an apprenticeship contract, and with a scholarship of 30,000 kuna during their three years of schooling, they will be offered the possibility of permanent employment upon finishing high school, provided they remain in employment for at least three years.

Ravlić-Devald added that this company employs more than 350 workers in meat production and meat processing, but has recently sometimes faced challenges in finding auxiliary workers in the labor market, not just qualified ones like butchers or traders.

In addition to distributing promotional posters and leaflets in schools, the project will also be promoted through social media, aimed at the younger population, she announced.

The principal of the Osijek Craft School, Maja Zorić, stated that in recent years very few students have chosen to train as butchers, making it difficult for the school to enroll a sufficient number of students to maintain the education for this profession in Osijek.

“I hope that the incentive from the Meat Industry ‘Ravlić’ will contribute to enrolling a sufficient number of students for this direction, and if the response is greater than expected, we can plan to increase the enrollment quota for the next period,” Zorić emphasized. She added that students for this profession are only trained in Osijek and Đakovo, while other craft schools no longer train butchers due to low interest.
