Rohani warned Trump that he will regret if he withdraws from the Iranian nuclear program agreement

Iranian President Hasan Rohani warned on Sunday that the United States will regret “like never before” if it decides to withdraw from the international agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, which U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to do.

Rohani made this statement in a speech in Sabzevar, in northwestern Iran, broadcast by state television, and did not directly say how Iran would react to the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement signed in July 2015.

“If the U.S. withdraws from the nuclear agreement, you will see that they will soon regret it like never before,” said the Iranian president.

The agreement on the Iranian nuclear program was signed by Tehran and the 5+1 group (China, the U.S., France, the U.K., Russia, and Germany) in Vienna before Donald Trump took office in the White House.

It strictly regulates Tehran’s nuclear activities to ensure that they are exclusively for peaceful purposes.

Trump has given Europeans a deadline until May 12 to prepare a new text that would eliminate, as he says, the terrible weaknesses of the agreement; otherwise, the U.S. will withdraw.

“Today, all political currents are united, right, left, conservative, reformist, and moderate (…) Trump must know that our people are united and the Zionist regime (Israel) must know that our people are united,” emphasized Rohani.

He also stated that in anticipation of Trump’s decision, “a few months ago he gave necessary instructions” to the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization without revealing what those instructions were.

On Thursday, the advisor to the Supreme Leader for international policy, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, went even further, warning that Iran would withdraw from the agreement if Washington carried out its threat.
