An illegal shipment of 50 crocodiles was recently seized at London Heathrow Airport in five boxes sent from Malaysia, reported the border police combating the trade in protected animal species.
The one-year-old young sea crocodiles were intended for a farm in Cambridgeshire in the east of the country, where they are raised for their meat. The animals were not transported in accordance with regulations, so their import permit was revoked.

Ten reptiles were crammed into each box, which was designed for four crocodiles, the police stated.
It is unacceptable for reptiles to be transported in this manner, said Grant Miller, head of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) at Heathrow.
The crocodiles attacked each other during the flight due to limited space. “We will stop any transport that is not in accordance with CITES regulations; this should serve as a warning to those who intend to transport wild animals in unsuitable conditions.”

After the crocodiles were discovered on April 27, one died, and the others were taken care of.
