Butković: Čiovo Bridge to be Completed in July

Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković stated on Friday that the bridge connecting the mainland to the island of Čiovo will be completed by July, that the contractor for the works is serious, and that he is satisfied with what he saw during a recent site visit.

“The Čiovo Bridge will be completed in July. After all the difficulties we faced regarding this project, everything that could go wrong has happened on Čiovo. Everything is going well, I was there about ten days ago, I am satisfied with what I saw, the contractor is serious, and everyone is working hard to ensure it is finished and it must be finished,” Butković responded to a journalist’s question ahead of a government meeting in Split.

He once again apologized to everyone who has been waiting for the completion of this bridge for years, saying that, unfortunately, there are situations when everything goes wrong.

“However, we managed to react and everything is proceeding as planned,” said the minister.

The bridge connecting the mainland to the island of Čiovo, which is expected to provide relief from heavy traffic congestion during the summer tourist season for the residents of Čiovo and Trogir, was supposed to be completed earlier. The bridge was initially constructed by Viadukt, but Hrvatske ceste terminated the contract with that company in March of last year due to, as explained, the inability to manage the project and delays and problems faced by that construction company.

After a new tender, Hrvatske ceste selected the consortium of Poduzeće za ceste Split and Strabag in October of last year for the construction of the bridge connecting the mainland to the island of Čiovo, with an estimated value of 95 million kuna excluding VAT.
