In the world, it is common for lectures by former governors to be paid in gold. Former governor of HNB, Željko Rohatinski, has not managed to break through in either domestic banking or employer circles. Although he is one of the best analysts, no one in Croatia wants his analyses. Despite this, one of the largest global academic publishers, Palgrave Macmillan, has published his book ‘Time and Economy: The Concept of Functional Time’, for which he could potentially compete for a Nobel Prize. However, Rohatinski not only does not remain silent, but he also tries to contribute to growth stimulation tools – analyses, round tables, and even his own blog.

In an interview with Lider, he shared some of his thoughts on reforms, monetary policy, the construction of the Pelješac Bridge, and explained his concept of functional time and its impact on the economy. He also touched on the partnership between the state and the private sector.

– A well-organized modern state can be and is a good business partner for the private sector. The emphasis is not on the issue of ownership but on the direct impact of the state on the development of the national economy. From financing research, initiating the development of certain activities, large purchases of specific products and services, to direct investments in public goods. Take the military-industrial complex in the USA as an example, not to mention the case of China or South Korea. After all, isn’t the construction of the Pelješac Bridge a state project?, Rohatinski asked.
