The world’s most popular social network is preparing to offer users the opportunity to use Facebook for intimate dating, announced CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg at the annual Facebook conference F8. The exact launch time of the service is not yet known, but it is certain that the company will soon attempt to regain some popularity among the younger population while also leveraging the potential of around 200 million users who have indicated they are not in a relationship. Given the recent scandal surrounding the ‘harvesting’ of private data, Zuckerberg emphasized the privacy of the future service, especially considering the sensitive nature of such a service. According to Reuters, the prototype shown at the conference had a small heart in the upper right corner of Facebook through which users can access their ‘dating profile’, if they have created one. The service will offer potential partners based on user preferences, common topics, and mutual friends. According to what was observed, Reuters writes, the service does not have a ‘swipe’ option like Tinder, currently the most well-known dating app, meaning the ability to swipe left or right over offered individuals (like, dislike), but there were two similar buttons, ‘interested’ and ‘not interested’. Following frequent complaints about existing services that cater to superficial and quick encounters for sex, Facebook’s service will also have an option for seeking long-term relationships, and users will only be able to exchange text messages, likely to avoid the common problem with such services, unwanted sending of nude photos.
