Komadina: Uljanik cannot be allowed to be the grave digger of 3. maj

The president of the Rijeka City Organization of the SDP and mayor Vojko Obersnel said on Tuesday at the May Day celebration in the Ronjgi picnic area that the Shipyard 3. maj will be defended by all means, if necessary even by civil disobedience, and that there is no reason to use the same method as in the case of Agrokor, “lex Agrokor”, to start saving Uljanik and 3. maj.

Obersnel stated that it was believed that shipbuilding had revived, but that we are once again facing the problem of the survival of 3. maj and Uljanik. He believes that 3. maj is a good company that has completed restructuring and would not have problems if it did not have an irresponsible owner. We were happy when privatization was completed, but I must call out the owner, who needs to pay due attention to 3. maj and must continue production, said Obersnel.

“We have defended 3. maj for thirty years, we will continue to defend it by all means, if necessary even by civil disobedience,” he stated. “If Uljanik is in such problems that it cannot solve itself, there is the Law on the Procedure of Extraordinary Administrations in Commercial Companies of Systemic Importance for Croatia or ‘lex Agrokor’, so if that law could be adopted to save Agrokor, there is no reason not to use the same method to save Uljanik and 3. maj, if the management of Uljanik does not know how to do it themselves,” he emphasized.

Obersnel congratulated everyone on Labor Day. Speaking about the labor movement, he said that leftist socialist parties have accepted the concept of proletariat as a common name for all those who live from their work and do not own the means of production, and that this has lasted for centuries, that nothing has changed, and that it is even worse.

Once, leftist parties spoke of the proletariat, and today we speak of the precariat, he said, emphasizing that these are all those who are not secure in their employment relationship and that Croatia is a record holder in the EU for the number of people employed on fixed-term contracts. He emphasized that we have lost more than 140,000 jobs in 15 years, while gaining 180,000 new retirees, and that at a time when we have a problem with new jobs, and young people are leaving the country, he no longer understands the policy of extending the working age, as he believes it leads to an even worse situation.

Obersnel also said that a large part of those present do not have means of production, as interpreted by economic science, but that they have means of production that no one can take away, namely hands with five fingers, which, if necessary, can become a fist to defend their rights.

Komadina: The government must take everything into account, including ‘lex brod’

The president of the County Organization of the SDP and county Zlatko Komadina called on those present to come to the event “Gremo na Učku” next weekend, organized in honor of the victory over fascism and Europe Day by the youth councils of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Istria counties.

“Let us come in greater numbers because if we are not here, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Istria counties, there is no one in this Croatia to inherit antifascism,” he said. He called on those present to support the SDP’s policies related to work and pensions, emphasizing that the minimum wage must be increased to 4,000 kuna and that the lowest pensions must be increased. He assessed that we have created a free and independent homeland, but that we have not fulfilled the dream that everyone has equal or good quality of life in a society of equal opportunities.

When asked by journalists about 3. maj, Komadina said that there is not enough corporate oversight in Croatia, that it should not have happened that 500 million kuna evaporated from 3. maj into Uljanik, and that Uljanik cannot be allowed to be the grave digger of 3. maj. “The government must react and everything must be done, even if it requires ‘lex brod’,” said Komadina, concluding that there is no alternative to ship production in 3. maj.

Komadina: SDP can work with many, but not with HDZ

The president of the County Organization of the SDP and Primorje-Gorski Kotar county Zlatko Komadina stated on Tuesday, responding to a journalist’s question about a possible SDP-HDZ coalition, considering the rise of the Living Wall, that the SDP is the only alternative to HDZ and that the SDP can work with many, but not with HDZ.

When asked about the rise of the Living Wall, Komadina said that it is logical, that people are dissatisfied, that those who have been in power have not met the citizens’ expectations sufficiently, and that this is the result of the rise of protest votes.

Journalists asked Komadina about the statement of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who in Okučani, when asked about the possibility of a grand coalition between HDZ and the opposition SDP, given that the rating of the Living Wall is rising, replied, “We are in power, and all the others are in opposition.”

“Well, I don’t know what the prime minister invented the warm water for, if he is the prime minister, then HDZ is in power, and those who do not form the government are, of course, in opposition. The other thing is what that message means to his coalition partners, when he said only HDZ, it means he considers them all HDZ, I would be worried in their place,” replied Komadina.

Regarding relations with Serbia, Komadina said that we need to talk sincerely and in a timely manner, not ‘after party’ and opportunistically. “They talk about Croatia when it serves their elections, we talk about Serbia when it serves our elections, all together with a fig in our pocket. If the interest of the citizens of both Croatia and Serbia is at stake, then it must be credible,” Komadina told journalists.
