The Bjelovar motorcycle wake, a unique way to celebrate International Workers’ Day not only in Croatia but also worldwide, was held this Tuesday for the 98th time in a row.
As early as half past four in the morning, around 500 motorcyclists gathered at the Square of Croatian Defenders, from where they set off on a two-hour ride through the city streets under police escort.

Originally conceived as an action protesting against the perpetually poor position of workers in society in this region with the roar of motorcycles with removed mufflers, the motorcycle wake has gradually lost its “youthful” rebellious character and transformed into a decent and peaceful tradition where not only Bjelovar motorcyclists gather, but also motorcyclists from all over Croatia, and recently even from abroad.
