Plenković in his message for International Labor Day emphasized the creation of a stimulating economic environment

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Monday sent a message to Croatian citizens on the occasion of International Labor Day, emphasizing that the Government has proven its systematic work in creating an economic environment for new employment, better wages, and a higher standard of living, in cooperation with social partners on political stability, legal security, growth, and solidarity.

In his message, the Prime Minister highlights that the Government, when it received majority trust and took responsibility for leading the country, did so with the desire to enable the well-being of all Croatian people and the homeland.

Last year, he notes, a general government surplus was achieved as confirmation of the Government’s determination and responsibility in conducting fiscal policy, and these efforts, he claims, have been recognized by international financial institutions and rating agencies, which have raised Croatia’s credit rating, with only one step remaining to an investment rating.

Plenković emphasizes that Croatia has stable and long-term sustainable economic growth, public debt is systematically decreasing, and it records the largest drop in the unemployment rate among EU countries, consequently leading to an increase in employment. The Government has shown care for Croatian workers by saving thousands of jobs that were threatened by the crisis in Agrokor.

“The challenges faced by modern Croatian society are not resolved overnight. We have proven that we systematically work on creating an economic environment that will enable new employment, better wages, and ultimately a higher standard of living. We want to improve living conditions and the position of families to retain our people and stop emigration, especially of the youth, thus enabling the demographic revitalization of the country,” he emphasizes in the message.

He adds that the Government has not forgotten the continuous cooperation and social dialogue with employers and unions, “because only through joint action and partnership can we achieve a better Croatia.” “Therefore, the Government persistently continues to work towards achieving our fundamental goals – political stability, legal security, economic growth, and solidarity,” concludes the Prime Minister.
