Pavić congratulated May 1st and reminded of employment growth in Croatia

Minister of Labor and Pension System Marko Pavić on Monday sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of May 1st, International Labor Day, and stated that the ministry advocates for an open and substantive dialogue with social partners, trade unions, and employers, and for a society in which all citizens of the Republic of Croatia can live with dignity from their work and their pensions.

“International Labor Day is a day when we remember the brave workers who paved the way for fairer and more humane working conditions in 1886. The Ministry of Labor and Pension System, through open and substantive dialogue with social partners, trade unions, and employers, firmly advocates for a society in which all citizens of the Republic of Croatia can live with dignity from their work and their pensions. We are pleased with the good results we have achieved. We have one of the highest employment growth rates in the European Union. At the end of 2017, Croatia had 60,000 more employed than in 2016. The registered unemployment rate is in constant decline, we have a record low of 160,000 unemployed, bringing us closer to the average of other EU member states,” Minister Pavić reminded.

He also emphasized that they are deeply aware of the challenges facing Croatian society, such as emigration from Croatia, and stated that they are responsibly working, together with other colleagues from the Government, led by President Andrej Plenković, to create conditions for the demographic recovery of the country.

“In cooperation with the Croatian Employment Service, we are urgently implementing active employment policy measures, taking into account both our young people and long-term unemployed citizens, in order to encourage their employment, contribute to their stay in Croatia, and activate the labor market. This year, we have secured more than 2.5 billion kuna for employment programs.

We also take care of our workers who are about to retire and our pensioners, to whom I want to convey that our pension system is sustainable, and pensions are secure,” wrote Minister Marko Pavić in his congratulatory message, and on behalf of the Ministry of Labor and Pension System and personally, he congratulated everyone on International Labor Day.
