The new installment of ‘Star Trek’ will be directed by a woman for the first time in the half-century history of the cult sci-fi franchise, reports Variety.
The director is British filmmaker S.J. Clarkson, best known for her work on television, including series such as ‘House’, ‘Vinyl’, and ‘Dexter’.

The cast, according to previous announcements, is not expected to change significantly, so we will again see Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine in the lead roles of Spock and Captain Kirk, along with the rest of the Enterprise crew, namely Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban (Bones), John Cho (Sulu), and Simon Pegg (Scotty).
Producers have decided to permanently ‘retire’ the character of Chekov, portrayed by Anton Yelchin before he tragically died in a car accident in 2016.

There is currently not much information about the plot, likely due to the fact that three versions of the script have been written in the last two years, one of which was to be directed by Quentin Tarantino.
It is rumored that we will also see Chris Hemsworth in the role of Kirk’s father in the currently unnamed film, and their relationship is expected to be crucial to the resolution of the entire story.
