Ford Focus: The Fourth Generation Started from Scratch

The Ford Focus is undoubtedly one of the most important global models. After all, the numbers confirm this, with 16 million units sold worldwide across the previous three generations, of which seven million were in Europe. At various times during its lifecycle, the Focus has also been the best-selling model in the world. The fourth generation Focus is technically a completely new car that has essentially been created from scratch. The foundation of every car is the chassis, and the new Focus uses a completely new modular C2 platform.

Three Body Shapes

The new Focus uses a completely new modular C2 platform. The design is also innovative, although Ford has followed some already known guidelines that customers have greatly appreciated.

The design is also innovative, and Ford clearly states that the Focus is the most important automotive novelty this year in Europe and certainly the most important Ford model in the last ten years. The new Focus for Europe will arrive from the plant in Saarlouis, Germany, where an investment of 600 million euros has been made. However, in terms of design, it is an evolution, not a revolution, as Ford has followed some known guidelines that customers have greatly appreciated. There is nothing unexpected in the interior space, and Ford will certainly pass the test with its clientele. There are also three body shapes available – a five-door compact, a station wagon, and a sedan (only for certain markets), and in addition to the standard equipment packages Ambiente, Trend, and Titanium, there are also luxury Vignale, sporty ST Line, and for the first time, the trendy crossover line Active with characteristic off-road enhancements and plastics and a raised body.

Diesel Engine Available

The engine lineup will immediately include the award-winning 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder gasoline engine with 85, 100, and 125 HP, as well as the 1.5-liter Dragon EcoBoost, also a three-cylinder engine with 150 and 182 HP. All engines have the ability to deactivate one cylinder if it is not needed during driving. The diesel lineup features the completely new 1.5 EcoBlue with 95 and 120 HP and 300 Nm, as well as the more powerful 2.0 EcoBlue with 150 HP and 370 Nm. Along with the 6-speed manual transmissions, Ford has also offered a completely new 8-speed automatic transmission for the more powerful gasoline and diesel versions, which is operated by a rotary switch instead of a lever, a solution similar to that seen in Jaguar models. The new Focus is expected to hit the market in the third quarter of this year.
