Tonko Obuljen elected as president of HAKOM

Tonko Obuljen is the new president of the Council of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Activities (HAKOM), decided by the Croatian Parliament on Friday with 78 votes ‘for’, five ‘against’, and 21 ‘abstentions’ regarding the appointment of the president, vice president, and members of the Council and the agency.

Darko Josipović was elected as vice president, and Mislav Hebela, Ante Milas, and Nikola Popović as members of the Council.

Due to the expiration of the mandate, Dražen Lučić was relieved of his duties as president of the HAKOM Council, along with his deputy Domagoj Jurjević and Council members Zdravko Jukić, Nikola Popović, and Marijan Bolarić.

Part of the opposition, as well as the SDSS, has recently raised concerns in discussions about the fact that the government proposed Tonko Obuljen as the president of the Council, the brother of the Minister of Culture Nina Obuljen Koržinek, but his expertise for this position was not questioned.

Additional confusion regarding Tonko Obuljen was created earlier by the government itself, which proposed him in a closed session, but failed to provide this information to journalists in a statement on the same day, later apologizing for the oversight.

Dražen Lučić is leaving his leading position at HAKOM, during whose mandate the media often reported on conflicts within the agency. However, Lučić applied for the position again this time, but his candidacy was not considered because the Municipal State Attorney’s Office has filed an indictment against him.
