Former Chief State Inspector Branko Jordanić stated that the unification of economic inspections as one of the goals of the National Reform Program 2018 is a good idea, but he is quite skeptical when it comes to implementation. He noted that a new body will first need to be established that no minister will be able to oversee, and various unnecessary departments within the inspection of a ministry will no longer be needed.

– While I was the Chief State Inspector, there were five administrative units of the Inspectorate organized as the regions in Croatia should be organized. However, these five administrative units allowed us so that neither county prefects could have direct control over the Inspectorate, not just ministers. Neither a county prefect nor a minister could order me anything, but unfortunately, all of this was broken due to various interest groups that benefited from inspections coming under the jurisdiction of ministries – said Jordanić.

For these reasons, obstructions are possible, and that is why Jordanić is somewhat skeptical. However, he emphasizes that by creating a single inspection body for the economy, it will enable the concentration of quality personnel who will act according to regulations and who need to be granted independence, which they currently do not have.
