Huawei P20 Pro declared the best ‘photo-smartphone’

Huawei Consumer Business Group has announced that the TIPA General Assembly recognized the Huawei P20 Pro smartphone as one of the best products of 2018, awarding it the title of “Best Photo Smartphone”. This prestigious award reflects the dedication and efforts of Huawei engineers and designers in developing leading consumer devices on a global scale, their quality, design, and performance.

The Huawei P20 Pro was selected by experts from 29 photographic and imaging publications worldwide through a rigorous process of nominations, testing, and comparisons. With the first triple camera and the highest number of pixels available in a smartphone with wide apertures of f/1.8, f/1.6, and f/2.4, the P20 Pro features a 40MP RGB sensor, a 20MP monochrome sensor, and an 8MP sensor with an optically stabilized 3X telephoto lens. With these cameras combined with an artificial intelligence system and over 500 algorithms for space recognition in 19 categories, professional photographs can be easily captured.

“TIPA has awarded Huawei’s smartphone the Excellence in Smart Photography award for the second consecutive year,” said Thomas Gerwers, President of TIPA, adding: “The new P20 Pro, together with Leica, is an incredible milestone in the development of smart devices for capturing high-quality photographs.”

The camera capabilities of the Huawei P20 series have set a new benchmark in smartphone photography, as recently demonstrated on DxOMark, the industry standard for measuring image quality and lenses. The Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei P20 received the highest overall scores for smartphones, and they are also the first two smartphones to achieve triple-digit DxOMark scores; 109 and 102.

“We are used to each new generation of smartphone cameras being somewhat better than the previous one, but looking at the images and test results for the P20 Pro, it seems that Huawei has skipped one or two generations. The results are so good. The implementation of the triple camera on the P20 Pro is the biggest innovation we have seen in mobile photography and it completely changes the game,” said Lars Rehm from DxOMark.
