Burić Calls for Investigation of the Contract Between the City of Rijeka and Raiffeisen Consulting Regarding Preluk

City councilor of the Independent List Bura, Hrvoje Burić, at a press conference on Wednesday in Rijeka, called on the relevant authorities to investigate the contractual relationship between the City of Rijeka and Raiffeisen Consulting, based on which the City of Rijeka paid rent for the Preluk area of 60,000 square meters for 12 years, and now Raiffeisen Consulting has sold that land for 3.3 million euros without the knowledge of the city administration.

Burić stated that Mayor Vojko Obersnel has caused damage to the city budget in this deal amounting to around 20 million kuna and noted that if the relevant authorities do not initiate proceedings, he will file a complaint with the State Attorney’s Office.

Reminding that the City of Rijeka signed a lease agreement with Raiffeisen Consulting for 15 years, with an amount of 200,000 euros annually, Burić stated that based on the leasing agreement, he could have become the owner for the same installment.

– It turns out that Raiffeisen Consulting received the land for free when it bought it for about 2.5 million euros. The question is why Raiffeisen Consulting has now sold the land for only 50 euros per square meter, as my estimate is that it is worth at least 500 euros per square meter, said Burić.

He assessed that the City could have earned at least 30 million euros if it had purchased the land at Preluk.

Raiffeisen Consulting purchased the land at Preluk from the company Trgovačko Opatija in bankruptcy proceedings for 2.5 million euros, and in 2006, the city administration of Rijeka signed a lease agreement for 15 years, aiming to control the future use of the space and expecting a return on investment from the investor. According to information published in the newspapers, Raiffeisen Consulting sold the land to Sea Quest Property Developments, a Canadian businessman Nikola Grgica, for 3.35 million euros.

Preluk is a bay between Rijeka and Opatija, with a large flat area in close proximity to the sea and the main road, providing great opportunities for the development of a business-tourist complex.
