The President of the Croatian People’s Party, Ivan Vrdoljak, stated on Monday that finding a new strategic partner for INA, who would invest in oil and gas production as well as refinery production in Sisak and Rijeka, would be the most favorable solution for the survival and maintenance of oil refining in the Sisak Refinery.
“I believe that the consultants engaged by the Government will propose the most acceptable solution. The position of the HNS is that production should be retained in Sisak, as well as all schools and faculties related to the oil industry. It is essential to sit down at the table and talk openly with MOL as a partner. The fact is that MOL’s interests are in conflict with the interests of Croatia, and there have never been aligned development strategies,” Vrdoljak said at a press conference in Sisak.

When asked by journalists why there was no vigorous reaction from the authorities following MOL’s announcement of shutting down production in Sisak, Vrdoljak responded that now is not the time to show muscle, but for an argument-based dialogue. He added that the strategic policy of the state regarding INA has not changed and that he expects a strategic partner to be found. In that case, a strong INA, as a gas producer, could find its interest and become a strategic partner of Petrokemija, he said.
