Russian low-cost airline Pobeda is considering the introduction of standing seats in its aircraft, the company reported.
“We are considering the arrangement of the passenger cabin that would increase efficiency and affect the availability of as many cheap tickets as possible,” said Pobeda, whose fleet currently consists of 18 Boeing 737-800s, with plans to increase the number of aircraft to 30 by the end of 2019.
Recently, The Telegraph also reported that the Italian company Aviointeriors is considering introducing standing seats by installing vertical supports with a horizontal shallow seat at hip height and two armrests alongside the usual seats. It is impossible to sit in such a support; one can only lean on it.
The manufacturer of standing seat supports in aircraft claims that their potential buyers will “enhance passenger placement” and emphasizes that they are twice as light as conventional seats and that their use could allow aircraft to carry 20 percent more passengers.
