One Croatian island is soon expected to become an example of a sustainable island on a global scale. This will happen within the framework of the Smart Islands initiative launched last week, aimed at about fifty inhabited islands in Croatia, which should result in the selection of one island for a pilot project. The initiative is being implemented by the European Investment Bank, which supports European projects through a range of financial instruments.
>>> The true champion of tourism is the island of Krk
– In the first phase, the needs of the island will be analyzed in the context of a range of requirements in key areas such as energy independence, waste, transport, desalination of water, and similar. I expect that we will soon select one island for a pilot project that should become an example of a sustainable island on a global scale, especially within the EU – revealed Marino Franinović, advisor to the Vice President for Smart Cities at the European Investment Bank, to Lider.
