Split SDP Requests ‘Local Forests’, a New Ownership Category

Split SDP has requested that the Forest Act, which is currently in its second reading in the Croatian Parliament, introduce the ownership category ‘local forests’ so that forest owners can be cities and municipalities in their area, rather than the state.

– If the park forest Marjan were managed by Croatian Forests, it would jeopardize the fire protection of Marjan because Croatian Forests invest significantly less money in fire protection than the City of Split would, and for this reason, it is necessary to legally introduce the ownership category ‘local forests’, which is also in accordance with European practice, said Goran Kotur, president of the Split SDP, to Hina on Tuesday.

He reminded that recently the Split City Council, at the proposal of SDP councilors, accepted a conclusion related to the park forest Marjan that the ownership category ‘local forests’ should be introduced.

– The introduction of the ownership category ‘local forests’ is in the interest of all citizens of Split and transcends partisanship because in the case of introducing the category ‘local forests’, Split can take better care of its Marjan, emphasized Kotur.

The president of the SDP parliamentary club in the Croatian Parliament, Arsen Bauk, supported the proposal of the Split SDP to introduce the ownership category ‘local forests’ into the Forest Act. Bauk stated that many mayors and heads of municipalities across Croatia, regardless of party affiliation, support the idea of introducing the category ‘local forests’.

– I hope that the parliamentary representatives from Split, especially the HDZ representatives, will support the proposal to introduce the ownership category ‘local forests’, emphasized Bauk.
