The fourth annual Lider conference Smart Cities 2018 – Smart solutions for a sustainable city has begun, which will highlight concrete solutions and existing strategies for implementing smart solutions aimed at sustainability and improving the quality of life in cities.
– We are all witnesses to the trend of young people emigrating from Croatia. When we were preparing the conference, we realized that one of the tasks is to apply smart solutions in cities to reduce the number of those who will leave Croatia, so that smart solutions attract investors who will employ new people, and that through smart cities we address pressing economic issues – said the editor-in-chief of Lider, Miodrag Šajatović, in his opening remarks.

Michael A. Lange, director of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Croatia, spoke in the introduction about the example of Berlin as a smart city, stating that Berlin has long been applying innovative technological solutions and has developed a concept aimed at increasing the quality of life.
The Lider conference will also address how much the concept of a ‘smart city’ has taken root in Croatia, how much progress has been made in the application of urban application solutions and smart city services, what is being done regarding infrastructure solutions, traffic solutions and mobility, public lighting systems, energy-efficient construction, reducing CO2 emissions, and the application of renewable energy.
