From Autumn, Two New Undergraduate and Three Graduate Programs at the University of North

At the University of North in Varaždin, two new undergraduate and three new graduate programs will be launched this autumn, it was announced at a press conference on Tuesday at the university center.

In addition to the existing undergraduate programs in Multimedia, Design and Application, Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Technical and Economic Logistics, and Nursing, programs in Mechatronics and Physiotherapy will be introduced. At the graduate level, in addition to the existing programs in Business Economics and Public Relations, there will also be programs in Multimedia, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering starting this autumn.

The new programs of the University of North were presented by Rector Marin Milković, emphasizing that the new undergraduate programs will be opened primarily due to the needs of the economy.

– The University of North has already established itself in the STEM field of science. All new study programs at the university center in Varaždin, as well as student programs that will soon be promoted at the university center in Koprivnica, are in the STEM field, which constitutes more than 90 percent of the study programs, making us unique in Croatia, said Milković.

The rector added that there have been many inquiries regarding the Physiotherapy and Mechatronics programs.

– There is a great demand for Mechatronics in the economy and interest from business entities, but I must emphasize the support of the Croatian Chamber of Economy for launching such a program. The other three university programs are actually fulfilling our promise to our students who have long awaited the opening of the University, so they can continue their educational vertical in our institution, stated the rector.

Ensuring Quality Personnel

From autumn, between 20 to 30 regular and the same number of part-time students will be enrolled in the new graduate university programs, while the quota at the undergraduate level will be slightly higher – around 35 regular and 40 part-time students.

– I believe that we have significantly fulfilled our task towards the city and the region and that we will provide our economy with quality personnel for the further development of the economy in northern Croatia, concluded Rector Milković.

Regarding the importance of developing and introducing new studies for the economy and the broader community, the Vice-Rector of the University Center Varaždin, Damir Vusić, spoke, highlighting that the development of study programs in the STEM field has been something that has been truly synchronized in planning and execution.

– We are satisfied, but what we must acknowledge is the fact that we cannot meet the needs of the economy, and this is because the current economic situation is such that they are crying out for personnel. We are witnessing a large number of people leaving Croatia, and we would be truly happy if all our students who complete their education stay here and serve all those needs and demands of the economy, i.e., employers, said Vusić.
