The shipbuilding industry Split delivered the first steel span segment of the Čiovo bridge for assembly at the construction site on Tuesday, as announced by Brodosplit.
The steel structure of the bridge consists of a total of 14 span assemblies, with the most demanding central part where hydraulic mechanisms for lifting the central part of the bridge will be installed. They are mounted on supporting pillars and welded together into a whole.
According to the contract with the company Strabag and the investor, Croatian Roads, work has been ongoing at the Split shipyard since the beginning of this year to consolidate partially completed segments that Brodosplit took over from previous contractors. According to the contract, the segments were to be manufactured and anti-corrosion protected, assembled, and thus connect the two shores, the statement said.
Brodosplit workers have already assembled four mega segments at the construction site, and by mid-May, all segments of the future Čiovo bridge should be delivered and installed as planned, it adds.

The Čiovo bridge is expected to be completed by mid-June this year. It is being constructed by the Road Company Split and Strabag.
The bridge is 547 meters long and valued at over 207 million kuna. It has entered among the projects of European funding, with 176.7 million kuna or 85 percent financed from EU funds.
