Štromar announced the construction of 600 to 1000 apartments on the slopes of Mosor

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction and Spatial Planning Predrag Štromar announced the construction of up to a thousand apartments in the Korešnica area on the slopes of Mosor, and he also supported the construction of a railway line that would connect Split Airport with the ferry port through which approximately 8.5 million passengers pass annually.

“Very soon we will have from 600 to 1000 apartments for veterans and for all citizens who can be buyers of these apartments under the POS model,” Štromar said to reporters in Split on Tuesday after a meeting with Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara, where they discussed preparations for the Government session scheduled for May 4 in Split.

During last week’s visit to Split, Minister of State Property Goran Marić announced that the Government would make a decision at the session in Split on May 4 to allocate 200,000 square meters of land on the slopes of Mosor for the construction of apartments for veterans and for POS apartments. Štromar explained today how these apartments, which will be built on the slopes of Mosor, will also help resolve the difficulties faced by tenants.

“These apartments will also enable our protected tenants who are currently in other apartments, and whom we cannot leave without a roof over their heads, to resolve their housing issues,” Štromar said. He also mentioned that Mayor Krstulović Opara informed him about plans for the construction of a railway line that would connect Split Airport with the ferry port. Štromar stated that the Government is ready to provide financial assistance for the construction of this line.

“This line is needed for Split, and I am glad that today representatives of HŽ and the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure concluded that we are moving in that direction,” added Štromar. Split Mayor Krstulović Opara told reporters that he informed Minister Štromar about today’s meeting regarding the construction of the railway line. The meeting was also attended by Split-Dalmatian County Prefect Boban, the mayors of Solin, Kaštela, and Trogir, as well as representatives of HŽ Infrastructure and HŽ Passenger Transport, representatives of Split Airport and the ferry port, and a representative of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.

“Last year, three million passengers were registered at Split Airport and more than 5.5 million at the ferry port, so the need for the construction of a railway line that would connect them arises due to the enormous number of passengers in them,” said Krstulović Opara. According to him, at that joint meeting, held before the meeting with Minister Štromar, a seven-member working group for the construction of the railway line was formed.

“The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure will finance a feasibility study for this railway line, and this study will provide data on the route and area of the line. We are aware that it takes time to realize this project, but we are ready to start it,” Krstulović Opara stated. He added that the project for the railway line between Split Airport and the ferry port will also be on the agenda of the Government session in Split.

Štromar told reporters that his hosts in Split also informed him about the remediation at the Karepovac waste disposal site. In response to questions, he reminded that the deadline for the legalization of illegally built structures is June 30 of this year, after which this deadline will not be extended. Krstulović Opara stated that in the area of the former barracks, which will also be largely transferred to the ownership of the City of Split at the Government session on May 4, and to a lesser extent to the Split-Makarska Archdiocese, a technology center worth 20 million euros will be built.

Štromar emphasized that the Split authorities, led by Mayor Krstulović Opara, have decided to address the problems that have accumulated over the years. He also reminded that his ministry, in cooperation with the Split city authorities, resolved the issue of illegal construction on the Žnjan plateau, where about 30 illegally built structures were demolished at the end of last year.
