In Mokrice, Slovenia, a regional conference was held on Thursday and Friday, April 12 and 13, where many international and national experts addressed some of the key questions that arose before the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) began.

The conference was attended by more than 100 experts in the fields of law, marketing, IT, and human resources. Among the speakers, the organizers Info House, Ascaldera, and Info House Zagreb particularly highlighted Bruno Gencarelli from the European Commission, Geraldine Proust from the International Direct Marketing Association, and Ann Cavoukian, the author of the term “technical protection” or “Privacy by Design.”
An important conclusion of the conference is that companies that actively approached the implementation of GDPR before the start of its application – May 25 of this year, will not be surprised. Specifically, foreign experts emphasized the importance of a common-sense approach in the implementation of the Regulation, illustrated by numerous examples, and how it is important not only to understand the regulation but always to grasp the context of each individual case.

At the conference, the first 30 diplomas were awarded to participants of the first generation of additional qualifications for authorized persons for personal data protection, recognized by the Republic of Slovenia.
“Preparation for GDPR on May 25 will not be completed; the protection of individual rights at a higher level is becoming a new constant in the business of all companies and public institutions,” said Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, chair of the conference program committee.
“Compliance with GDPR is an obligation for all organizations, and good organizations will solve the problem of effective data processing in accordance with GDPR, using appropriate information solutions,” stated Irena Jakša Zupančič, director of Ascaldera, co-organizer of the conference.

“We are aware that GDPR imposes some new rules, obligations, and burdens on data controllers and processors, and significant challenges are also placed before personal data protection officers who will truly need to be experts with excellent knowledge of this issue in order to perform their tasks effectively and professionally,” emphasized Dubravka Dolenc, director of Info House Zagreb and co-organizer of the conference.
