In the Gothic hall of the Museum of the City of Split, a unique sweet souvenir “Diocletian’s Palace made of chocolate” was presented on Wednesday evening.
The new unique and exclusive souvenir was created by the company Kraš in collaboration with the Tourist Board of the City of Split and the Museum of the City of Split. As explained by Kraš CEO Damir Bulić, the chocolate palace was made according to the original shape of the palace and is based on a scientific model created in 2015. The reconstruction is based on nearly 60 years of scientific research work by architect Jerko Marasović. His daughter, architect Katja Marasović, created the execution project according to which academic sculptor Frane Šitum made the model.
“The idea for this project originated last year when we were renovating our store ‘Bombonijera’ in Pjaca, one of the symbols of Split, so we wanted to offer something more to our loyal consumers, tourists, those who live in Split and love it. Thus, the idea was born after which our masters and technologists created the original model of Diocletian’s Palace from the 3rd century in this past year,” said Bulić.
The white chocolate weighing 300 grams costs 130 kuna, and is currently sold only in Kraš stores, but it could soon be found on the shelves of Split souvenir shops. Along with the chocolate, the souvenir includes an informational booklet in Croatian and English describing the history of Diocletian’s Palace.
