At today’s Lider Exporters’ Club, which gathered around 30 of the strongest exporting companies in Croatia at the Internacional hotel in Zagreb, two key topics were the reform of the judiciary and the facilitation of exporters’ operations through the simplification of customs procedures.

Juro Martinović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, emphasized that the Government is considering how to ease procedures for the economy and exports through legal frameworks and that a package of six laws is currently in parliamentary procedure.
– The goal of this phase of the reform is to increase the accountability and transparency of the courts and to shorten court proceedings. For example, we will amend the Law on the Seat of Courts, which will result in ten new municipal courts, but this does not represent a total increase as misdemeanor courts will be closed in parallel and will become departments in municipal courts. The network of commercial courts and the seats of state attorney’s offices are also changing. An analysis of past practices has shown that citizens have to travel to municipal courts, which incurs costs for them, so we are restoring the role of permanent services where cases will be resolved in the area of citizens’ residence, achieving less time loss and easier access to the court, Martinović pointed out.
