On the Agenda of the Parliament: Discussion on the Istanbul Convention and the Recall of Martina Dalić

The President of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, announced on Monday that the parliamentary session on Wednesday will begin with Current Questions, followed by a discussion on the Istanbul Convention, and on Thursday, there will be a discussion on the recall of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Martina Dalić.

Jandroković told reporters at St. Mark’s Square, after a regular meeting with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, that the parliamentary session on Wednesday will start with Current Questions, followed by a discussion on the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, and on Thursday, there will be a discussion on the recall of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Martina Dalić.

He did not want to disclose details of the meeting with Prime Minister Plenković ahead of the continuation of the parliamentary session, stating that it was about internal discussions.

About Stier when the time comes, and it will not be long

When asked whether Davor Ivo Stier can remain in the position of political secretary of the HDZ after the conflict with Plenković, he briefly replied: “We will talk about that when the time comes, and it will not be long.”

Jandroković, who is also the Secretary General of the HDZ, added that they will discuss this within the party. He believes that this situation is different from those they have had because a public discussion has been initiated, and some quite harsh words have been heard, offensive to those Stier spoke about.

– I do not know who he was referring to, and it would be good for him to explain that, considering what he said is very unpleasant for those he spoke about. So it would be good for him to clarify what he was actually talking about and why he said it that way, he conveyed.

Jandroković also believes that it would be good for Stier to clarify whether he was referring to someone inside or outside the HDZ at that time, because, he said, telling someone that they are blackmailing someone from the Church hierarchy is “quite unpleasant and deserves an explanation.” Stating that he does not know anyone in the HDZ who found themselves in Stier’s words, he reiterated that it would be good to publicly hear who it is about.

When asked whether the position of the party’s international secretary, Mire Kovač, who also opposes the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, is questionable, he replied that Plenković himself said that this is not about penalizing but about principles that everyone should defend the party’s policy together.

He also reminded that the party’s Presidency, 21 county committees, and several HDZ communities have already supported the ratification of this convention and the policy of the party’s leadership and the president of the HDZ.

– We expect everyone, in a situation where the HDZ is attacked by political opponents, to defend the party’s policy, he said.

Questionable voting by conscience on the ratification of the IK

When asked how he comments on the decline in the party’s rating according to the latest Cro Demoskop surveys, Jandroković said that, considering recent events (the Istanbul Convention, water pollution in Slavonski Brod, and similar), this is the result of all that.

When asked whether HDZ representatives will be able to vote according to their conscience during the voting on the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, he replied that they will decide on that in the coming days.

Regarding the selection of the head of the Expert Working Group (ERS) for the implementation of the curricular reform, Jandroković said that he expects that everything will be “cleared up” today or in the coming days and that the coalition will continue to work successfully. When asked whether Radovan Fuchs will be the head of the ERS, he replied that this will be decided by the Special Expert Commission for the implementation of the Education, Science, and Technology Strategy.
