Support for Farmers up to 70 Percent on Crop Insurance Policies

The Ministry of Agriculture on Friday called on farmers to insure their crops, for which they can receive support of up to 70 percent of the eligible insurance premium, or a maximum of 75,000 euros annually per user in kuna equivalent, with a total of 70 million kuna allocated for this support this year.

The Ministry reported on its website that the Agency for Payments in Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development has announced a competition for the implementation of sub-measure 17.1. “Insurance of crops, animals, and plants” from the Rural Development Program of the Republic of Croatia for the period 2014 – 2020.

“Individuals and legal entities registered in the Register of Farmers can apply for the competition, and the maximum annual support amount per user is 75,000 euros in kuna equivalent and relates to the year for which the support payment requests are submitted. The support intensity amounts to up to 70 percent of the eligible insurance premium, and the total amount of available public support funds in this competition is 70 million kuna,” the Ministry emphasizes.

Applications can be submitted throughout the year, specifically from April 16 until the end of this year.

The Ministry notes that the user must be registered in the Register of Farmers at the time of submitting the support payment request.

Support requests can also be submitted by farmers who contracted insurance policies before the announcement of this competition.

“The new measure for crop insurance allows farmers to incur much lower costs as the Ministry pays 70 percent of the insurance policy to insurance companies, and the farmer only pays 30 percent,” emphasizes Minister of Agriculture Tomislav Tolušić.

The Ministry has informed insurance companies about the new conditions for contracting insurance through the Croatian Insurance Bureau. “Reactions are positive, and an increase in interest from farmers and an increase in the number of contracted insurances is expected,” the Ministry states.
