Today in Croatia

We announce the most important events in Croatia for Thursday, April 5, 2018.:

ZAGREB – Session of the Government of the Republic of Croatia (9 AM, St. Mark’s Square 2). On the agenda is, among other things, the Draft Proposal of the Law on Road Transport (EU); and the Proposal of the Government’s report regarding the interpellation of 21 members of parliament about the Government’s work on the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

ZAGREB – The Association We Are Not Alone, the Solidarity Foundation, and the Association of Health and Medical Journalists of HND are organizing a round table “Can Croatia Do Better?” on the issues and possible solutions in the prevention and treatment of cancer, the second leading cause of death among women in Croatia. The round table is organized to initiate a public discussion on the problems in the prevention and treatment system that lead to high mortality rates among cancer patients (11 AM, Croatian Journalists’ Society, Perkovčeva 2).

ZAGREB – Organized by “L’Oreal ADRIA” and the Croatian Commission for UNESCO at the Ministry of Culture, scholarships of the National Scholarship Program “For Women in Science” for 2018 will be ceremonially awarded. For the twelfth year, the Selection Committee of the program, composed of top Croatian scientists, rewards four promising young female scientists who contribute to science and society through their work. The scholarship award ceremony will be attended by selected scholarship recipients, as well as Blaženka Divjak, Minister of Science and Education, and Nina Obuljen Koržinek, Minister of Culture, Vesna Bedeković, a member of the Croatian Parliament, academician Zvonko Kusić, President of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and President of the Selection Committee of the program “For Women in Science”, as well as Brigitte Streller, General Director of L’Oreal ADRIA. ZAGREB – The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is opening the Refugee Integration Center “SOL” and is starting a crowdfunding campaign “Yesterday Foreigners, Today Neighbors” aimed at raising additional funds for the Center’s activities (SOL – meeting of ordinary people). The Center was established to provide support to individuals and families who have received refugee status in Croatia in their integration process. At the Center, refugees will be able to learn the Croatian language, and a series of workshops dedicated to children and women, as well as intercultural meetings between citizens and refugees, are planned. (12 PM, Maksimirska Street 286, opposite the Dubrava tram terminal).

ZAGREB – The Croatian Agricultural and Forestry Advisory Service will announce at a press conference the event “Wines from Antiquity”, which will gather and present the best Croatian wines made exclusively from indigenous grape varieties for the first time on April 13 and 14 in Zagreb. More than 120 samples of these wines from 63 winemakers were evaluated at the end of March, and the results of that evaluation will also be announced at the conference (1 PM, Vineyard-Wine Testing Station of the Faculty of Agriculture Zagreb “Jazbina”, Jazbina 142).

ZAGREB – Representatives of the Zagreb Fair (ZV) will announce the program, premieres, and other details of the largest car and related industry fair in Croatia, the “Zagreb Auto Show”, which will be held from April 10 to 15 at ZV (10:30 AM, ZV, Dubrovnik Avenue 15).
