MojaPlaća: Average Salary 5596 Kuna

According to data from the MojaPlaća service, in the first quarter of 2018, the average net salary in Croatia was 5596 kuna, while top management employees have an average income that is 130 percent higher, and employees in auxiliary occupations have a salary that is 40 percent lower than the average.

The salary with bonuses amounted to around 5860 kuna; however, the median salary is lower at 5000 kuna, which means that a larger number of respondents have a salary lower than the average than those whose salary is higher than it, reported the MojPosao portal on Thursday. Compared to the same period last year, the average monthly net salary was 3 percent higher, and respondents expect an average net salary of 5503 kuna. Traditionally, men had an average salary that is 13 percent higher than women, earning 5952 kuna, while women earn an average of 5253 kuna.

It was highlighted in the statement that in the first quarter, besides top management with a salary 130 percent higher than the average, the highest-paid professions are those in the field of technology and development with an average that is 67 percent higher. They are followed by information technology with 37 percent and human resources with 32 percent higher salaries than the average.

Salaries in the textile and leather industry increased by 14 percent

The lowest average salaries are earned by workers in auxiliary occupations, whose salary is 40 percent lower than the average, in the textile and leather industry it is 37 percent lower, workers in service activities have a salary that is 31 percent lower, and workers in tourism and hospitality are 18 percent below the average. However, compared to the same period last year, salaries in the textile and leather industry increased by 14 percent.

Individuals with a completed university degree have, on average, 48 percent higher income than those with a high school education, and 23 percent higher salary than the average. A completed master’s degree or doctorate increases the salary by as much as 96 percent compared to a secondary vocational qualification.

The level of salaries also depends on the ownership structure of the company. In private companies with foreign ownership, the salary is 11 percent higher and averages 6214 kuna, while salaries in companies predominantly owned domestically are the lowest, with an average salary of 5344 kuna. In state-owned companies, the salary is 3 percent higher than the average and amounts to 5769 kuna, while in public and local government it is equal to the average and amounts to 5622 kuna. In smaller companies, the average salary is lower, while in larger companies it is higher, the research showed.

According to counties, the lowest salaries in the first quarter of 2018 were recorded in Brod-Posavina and Virovitica-Podravina counties, where they are about 20 percent lower, while the highest is in the City of Zagreb, 13 percent above the average, or 6503 kuna. The most employees receive travel expense reimbursement, mobile phone, and parking as benefits. A bonus for anniversaries, for example, for 10 years of work, is received by 18 percent of respondents, free drinks are provided to 16 percent, and a quarter of workers have no additional benefits, the statement said.
