Confused Julia Skripal Gives First Public Statement

Julia Skripal gave her first public statement on Thursday after being poisoned last month along with her father, former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal, stating that the “whole episode is somewhat confusing.”

“I woke up more than a week ago and I am glad to say that I am getting stronger every day. I am grateful for the interest in me and for the many messages of good wishes that I have received,” said Julia Skripal (33), in a statement released by the London police.

“I am sure you understand that the whole episode is somewhat confusing and I hope you will respect my privacy and the privacy of my family during my recovery,” she said.

Julia Skripal also called her cousin in Russia, saying that she and her father are recovering and that she expects to be released from the hospital soon, reported Russian state television and the Interfax agency on Thursday.

State television reported on Wednesday evening that the phone call took place and that it received a recording of the conversation from Julia’s cousin Victoria Skripal, which it cannot guarantee is authentic. Britain accuses Russia of poisoning with a nerve agent, while Moscow denies these allegations.

After the attack on March 4, father and daughter were in critical condition, but the hospital where they were being treated announced on March 29 that Julia was improving, while the BBC reported, citing sources, that she is “conscious and talking.”

State television and Interfax report that Julia Skripal allegedly called Victoria on Wednesday evening and told her: “Everything is fine, everything can be resolved, everyone is better, everyone is alive.”

When asked about her father’s health, Julia reportedly said: “Everything is fine, he is resting now, sleeping. Health is good, no one has problems that cannot be resolved. I will be out soon (from the hospital).”

Victoria Skripal, Julia’s cousin and Sergei’s niece, said she plans to travel to England and will try to bring Julia back to Russia.
