American-Spanish actor Benicio Del Toro will chair the ‘Un Certain Regard’ jury, the second most important program of the official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, organizers announced on Wednesday.
Benicio Del Toro succeeds Uma Thurman as the head of the jury, which in 2017 awarded Mohamad Rasoulof, Jasmine Trinca, Mathieu Amalric, Taylor Sheridan, and Michel Franco.

Del Toro (51) received the Best Actor award at the Cannes Festival in 2008 for his role as Che Guevara in the two-part film ‘Che’ by Steven Soderbergh.
The actor, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in ‘Traffic’ in 2001, is also noted for his roles in ‘The Usual Suspects’, ’21 Grams’, and ‘Sicario’.

The Cannes International Film Festival will take place from May 8 to 19. The ‘Un Certain Regard’ program will offer “about twenty unique and original works” this year.
Del Toro was a member of the jury for the Palme d’Or in 2010 when the jury, chaired by Tim Burton, awarded ‘Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.’
