We announce the most important events in Croatia for Wednesday, April 4, 2018:

ZAGREB – The President of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, has convened the 17th session of the Presidency of the Croatian Parliament with the presidents of the parliamentary clubs (12 PM, Croatian Parliament, Ante Starčević Hall, St. Mark’s Square 6). The agenda for the upcoming session of the Croatian Parliament, the draft proposal for awarding the Charter to the Croatian Red Cross, and other matters will be discussed at the presidency.

ZAGREB – A ceremony will be held at the Ministry of Science and Education to sign a contract for the allocation of more than 121 million kuna for the strategic project “Center for Advanced Laser Techniques (CALT)”. The Minister of Science and Education, Blaženka Divjak, the Minister of Regional Development and European Union Funds, Gabrijela Žalac, the Director of the Central Agency for Financing and Contracting of Programs and Projects of the European Union, Tomislav Petric, and the Director of the Institute of Physics, Marko Kralj, who will also give a short presentation on the project (10 AM, Ministry of Science and Education, Multimedia Hall on the ground floor, Donje Svetice 38).

ZAGREB – The Minister of Construction and Spatial Planning, Predrag Štromar, will speak at a press conference about the legalization of illegally constructed buildings and remind that applications for legalization can be submitted until June 30. He will also reflect on the construction that has been legalized so far and the removal of illegally constructed buildings (1 PM, Ministry of Construction and Spatial Planning, Republic of Austria Street 20, Large Hall, 3rd floor).

OSIJEK – The central commemoration of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action will take place at Ante Starčević Square in Osijek, starting at 11 AM (media statements from guests and participants of the event are scheduled for 12 PM). Stands of exhibitors will be set up at Ante Starčević Square – the Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR), the Ministry of the Interior (Prevention Service and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service), the Croatian Red Cross – City Society Osijek, the “Croatia Without Mines” Foundation, the “Croatia Helps” Association, Žarko Plevnik, author of the book “Red Fiat”, the OSA Association, and other stakeholders of the commemoration who will present their contributions to mine action. A simulated minefield will demonstrate the work of deminers and mine detection dogs, sitting volleyball will be played, and a children’s play “No, No Mines!” will be performed, while three students will present their literary works on the theme “Croatia Without Mines”.

ZAGREB – The tourism and travel sector worldwide created 7 million new jobs last year, and with a growth of 4.6 percent, it outperformed the growth of the global economy and was the fastest-growing sector, while slower growth is forecast for this year due to higher oil prices, as highlighted in the new global report from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The report on the economic impacts of tourism and travel worldwide, published at the end of March, emphasizes that this sector has outperformed the overall economic growth for the seventh consecutive year, which grew by 3 percent, and that with a growth of 4.6 percent, it was ahead of the growth of other sectors, including manufacturing, which grew by 4.2 percent, retail and wholesale with a growth of 3.4 percent, agriculture, forestry, and fishing with a growth of 2.6 percent, and financial services with a growth of 2.5 percent.
