In the Californian city of Glendale, the first selfie museum opened on Sunday, inviting visitors to “explore the roots of this social phenomenon,” American media report.

In this interactive museum, selfie sticks and cameras are not only allowed but visitors are encouraged to bring them along. Until May 31, all interested parties will be able to explore the popularity and social and cultural impact of this popular type of photography.
The museum’s rooms are specially designed for taking selfies.

There are also exhibits that social media users often post on their profiles, such as food or the interiors of bathrooms with large mirrors, said one of the museum’s founders, Tommy Honton.
“We want to entertain and make people laugh. We want to surprise them with the museum’s setup. We are a place of visual humor where visitors, the moment they enter, engage in a kind of interaction with the space. I hope they will laugh sweetly, be confused and surprised… and that they won’t be able to resist taking a few selfies,” says Honton.

“The relationship between people and art has changed. Today, people do not want to be just observers; they want to be part of that art. For example, there are many selfies with various ‘versions’ of the Mona Lisa than with the real Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa,” says Honton.
