A protein has been discovered that can slow down the development of liver cancer and allows for earlier diagnosis and better survival prospects, announced the University of Basel.
This type of cancer primarily affects older men who already suffer from liver cirrhosis and is often only detected in advanced stages, which shortens the survival period.
– The protein named LHPP prevents the uncontrolled spread of cancer cells in the liver, the Swiss university announced in a statement on Wednesday.

The lack of this protein reduces the lifespan of patients by two years.
Therefore, it should be genetically restored to produce this protein in patients who do not have it. The discovery was published in the journal Nature, for which the lead author of the research, Sravanth Hindupur, stated that it is “astonishing that LHPP was completely absent in tumor tissue, while it was present in healthy tissue.”
