The HSS has strongly condemned Prime Minister Plenković’s decision to expel a Russian diplomat in a bid to show solidarity with Great Britain. They described the act as a ‘crazy diplomatic move’ and assessed that it is detrimental not only to Russian-Croatian relations but also to the interests of Croatia as a whole.
– The decision to expel a Russian diplomat and thus show solidarity with Great Britain is immensely harmful not only to Russian-Croatian relations but also to the interests of Croatia as a whole. A ‘persona non grata’ or undesirable person can only be someone who has done something against our homeland, and no Russian diplomat, nor Russia as a state, has done anything wrong to Croatia or its citizens, the HSS warns in a statement.
They add that it is Croatia that has persistently and without provocation been provoking a great world power – Russia – in recent years.
– Plenković refers to solidarity with Great Britain, and we in the HSS do not recall that this Kingdom has ever shown solidarity with us in a similar way, even though, for example, in 1991 there were many reasons for that. Let us just remember the arms import embargo that was imposed on Croatia during the greatest aggression against our homeland, the HSS emphasizes.
They believe that Russia is not an enemy to Croatia, and unnecessary strain in relations means nothing to Russia, while it could mean a lot to Croatia, in a negative sense. For this reason, they have sent an appeal to the authorities to, as the HSS emphasizes, stop being obedient servants and sycophants of their Anglo-Atlantic mentors and start conducting foreign policy that will benefit Croatia and all its citizens, rather than individuals who obediently execute the orders of their big bosses.
