Arizona authorities on Monday banned Uber from operating autonomous vehicles on the roads of the southwestern U.S. state due to an accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian in mid-March.
Uber announced just a day after the accident, which occurred on March 18 in Tempe, that it was halting all testing of autonomous vehicles on public roads. The police released a video of the accident a few days later.
The police and traffic regulator have opened an investigation into the accident, which has revived concerns surrounding autonomous technology, intended, according to supporters, to reduce the number of accidents on the roads.
Numerous companies are investing billions in this technology and are already testing vehicles on public roads, particularly in Arizona and California.

Immediately after the accident, Uber suspended its testing in Tempe, San Francisco, and Pittsburgh in the U.S. and in Toronto, Canada.
