In the fourth quarter of last year, there were 1 million and 639 thousand employed persons in Croatia, which is 60 thousand more than in the same period a year earlier, while the number of unemployed persons decreased by 44 thousand year-on-year, to 200 thousand, according to the first data from the Labor Force Survey published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
The Labor Force Survey is conducted quarterly by the DZS, based on the methodology of the International Labour Organization (ILO), and provides internationally comparable data on employment and unemployment.

Data for the period from October to the end of December last year show that there were 1.6 million employed persons in Croatia during that period.
Considering the seasonal trends in the Croatian labor market and higher employment during the third quarter, i.e., the tourist season, the number of employed persons in the last quarter of last year was lower by 44 thousand on a quarterly basis.
However, on an annual basis, compared to the last quarter of 2016, data from the Labor Force Survey show that there were 60 thousand more employed persons in the last quarter of last year.

Thus, the employment rate, which shows the share of employed persons in the working-age population and which was 46.3 percent in the last quarter of last year, recorded a quarterly decrease of 1.2 percentage points, while compared to the last quarter of 2016, it increased by 1.9 percentage points.
