Sugary Fruit Juices Dangerous for the Heart

Sugary fruit juices in larger quantities are dangerous for the heart and significantly increase the risk of death from heart and other diseases, American scientists have reported, as conveyed by the Medicalexpress magazine.

Scientists tracked 18,000 participants over six years, and presented the results of their research at the American Heart Association conference.

They found that among those who consume more than two ounces (6.8 deciliters) of sweet drinks daily, the risk of death from heart and other diseases is twice as high as for those who consume less than one ounce on average daily.

Lead researcher Gene Welch states that the results of the study reaffirm the importance of controlling sugar intake in the body.

“We believe that the research significantly supports the understanding of the importance of reducing the share of sweet drinks in our consumption,” she emphasized.

The conclusions of the scientists from this study pertain only to beverages, not to foods with high sugar content. They note that it is evident that due to the lack of nutrients in sweet drinks, their consumption leads to a “sugar influx” that the body must absorb, whereas in food, in addition to sugar, there are fats and proteins that slow down metabolism.
