Today in Croatia – Government Interpretative Statement on the Istanbul Convention

We announce the most important events in Croatia for Thursday, March 22, 2018:

ZAGREB – Continuation of the 7th session of the Croatian Parliament (at 9:30 AM, St. Mark’s Square 6).

ZAGREB – Government session, which should include the Istanbul Convention and an interpretative statement that further clarifies the interpretations of certain articles of the Convention (8:30 AM, Banski dvori, St. Mark’s Square 2).

ZAGREB – A press conference will be held at the Center for Women’s Studies regarding the ratification of the Istanbul Convention in the Croatian Parliament and the announcement of a protest rally against the Convention on Saturday, March 24 (11 AM, Center for Women’s Studies, Dolac 8). The conference will feature speakers: Sandra Benčić (Solidarna Foundation), Rada Borić (New Left), Bojana Genov (Women’s Network of Croatia), Sabina Glasovac (SDP), Vesna Kesić (Women’s Network of Croatia), Anka Mrak Taritaš (GLAS), Marija Puh (HNS), and Ana Raffai (RAND).

ZAGREB – At the 10th session of the City Assembly of the City of Zagreb, Mayor Milan Bandić has put on the agenda, for the third time, a proposal to reduce the salaries of department heads, special senior advisors to the mayor – specialists, senior advisors to the mayor – specialists, and senior advisors to the president of the City Assembly – specialists – this time by seven percent. His coalition partners from HDZ and Independents for Croatia announced that they will not support his proposal for the third time. The first of 32 agenda items is a proposal for a decision on measures to prevent illegal waste disposal and measures for the removal of discarded waste, as well as a proposal for amendments to the decision on the protection of facilities from graffiti, statements on the situation in GK Jabuka, and two proposals for the abolition of public goods (Bistranska Street and Remete), (9 AM, Old City Hall, Ćirilometodska 5).

ZAGREB – Representatives of Croatian Forests and the company Odašiljači i veze will sign a contract worth 20 million kuna for video surveillance of forest fires, fire spread simulation, and radio communication connection. This contract will enable the complete equipping of operational centers of the county fire brigades of Zadar, Šibenik-Knin, Split-Dalmatia, and Dubrovnik-Neretva counties. Minister of Agriculture Tomislav Tolušić and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković will also be present at the signing of the agreement (12:00 PM, Ministry of Agriculture, Vukovar City Street 78).

CRIKVENICA – The Days of UHPA will gather representatives of travel agencies – members of the national association of travel agencies UHPA for the third time, and during the two-day meeting, current trends and this year’s legislative news will be discussed. The Director of the Main Office of the Croatian Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić is expected at the Days of UHPA on Thursday evening, and on the second day, Friday, Minister of Tourism Gari Cappelli (opening ceremony at 5:30 PM, Hotel Omorika, M. Muževića Street 20).

ZAGREB – King ICT is organizing a traditional business-informatic conference, the 13th Day of Open Integrations under the slogan “Ideas that Connect Us,” and some of the discussion topics include digitization in industry, how to accelerate digitization processes in Croatia, stimulate the development of the IT industry, and whether Croatia can achieve the goals of the EU Digital Agenda 2020 (9:00 AM, Hotel Antunović, Zagreb Avenue 100).

ZAGREB – Hrvatski Telekom (HT) will present next-generation super-fast optical services (11:00 AM, Kaptol Boutique Cinema, Nova Ves 17).
