JASPERS Confirms Readiness of Vinkovci-Vukovar Railway Electrification Project for EU Co-Financing

The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure received confirmation from JASPERS on Monday that the project for the upgrade and electrification of the Vinkovci-Vukovar railway is ready for co-financing from EU funds, the Ministry reported.

“The confirmation received from JASPERS ensures an important step in the procedure for approving non-repayable funds for a project with an estimated total value of nearly 531 million kuna, which, according to JASPERS’ confirmation, can receive co-financing of 85 percent of eligible costs,” the statement said.

The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure announced that in the coming weeks, they will allocate the mentioned funds to HŽ Infrastruktura so that they can continue with project activities and the tender for works and supervision of works, which is planned to be published at the end of this month.

This is an extremely significant project that will renew and electrify 18.71 kilometers of railway line and increase its speed to 120 kilometers per hour, and among other things, the railway stations Vukovar/Borovo Naselje and Vukovar, as well as the railway stops Nuštar and Bršadin-Lipovača, will be renovated, the Ministry emphasized.

Furthermore, the project is submitted to JASPERS experts, as a joint assistance for supporting projects in European regions, for their opinion and evaluation in order to make a decision, or confirmation (known as Action Completion Note) that the project is prepared and ready for co-financing with EU funds.

JASPERS (Joint Assistance in Supporting Projects in European Regions) is a technical assistance instrument of the European Commission created in collaboration with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support infrastructure projects. It is intended for large infrastructure projects receiving EU funds of more than 50 million euros, such as projects related to roads, railways, water, waste, energy, and urban transport.
