Tipurić: It is necessary to change a number of segments for Croatia to raise its competitiveness

– It is necessary to change a whole range of segments for Croatia to raise its competitiveness. Last year, we made ten recommendations aimed at improving the conditions for increasing the number and quality of greenfield investments, said Darko Tipurić, a professor at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, in his opening speech on the first day of the two-day conference ‘Greenfield Investments – How Dreams Become Reality’ which started this morning in Medulin.

Goran Buić, the mayor of the Municipality of Medulin, emphasized that the goals in this segment can be achieved if reforms and changes are approached synergistically. Istria County Prefect Valter Flego pointed out that Istria County is the only county where employment is increasing, but there is always room for improvement.

Currently, there are projects worth around 22 billion kuna being implemented in Croatia, stated Tomislav Petric from SAFU. – Now we will show whether we can utilize funds for greenfield investments, he added.

Marko Jurčić, envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia, says that there have been small shifts compared to last year, but that Croatia does not have enough capacity.

– Local communities have shown progress, such as Bjelovar which has started to independently make plans, and a positive example is Prelog which is excellently realizing investments, said Jurčić.
